The NHS offers help to those who wish to stop smoking with the following drugs;
Chantix has a 40% success rate, also has many unpleasant and sometimes dangerous side effects, treatment takes 12 weeks with sometimes a further 12 weeks and requires counselling support Zyban has a 30% success rate, there are many unpleasant and in some cases lethal side effects, treatment takes 7 to 12 weeks and requires psychiatric support and sometimes counselling. Patches have a 15% success rate, have many unpleasant side effects and in some cases patients become addicted to the patches; treatment takes up to 12 weeks and benefits from counselling or professional support. This is the method offered by Coventry City Council for a small fee. Gums and Inhalers have a very limited success rate and are occasionally harmful.
All these methods require a lot of willpower to succeed.
